Curry Family

Outdoor Session

Capturing the family connection

Honestly, it took us a little while to get this session to happen. When we finally came together on a Sunday, the Curry family was ready to go. Big sister is outgoing. She gave me advice on potential shots, poses, and locations. Little brother was less excited. I’m sure he would have preferred to spend his time at the playground. We pushed through and ended up having fun and got a great group of images that show the love in this family. Sessions like these are why I love my work creating beautiful and fun lifestyle family photography in Portland, Oregon.

What to wear?

I advised Mom that rather than matching, she start with an outfit for herself that she felt great in. The second step is to create outfits for each family member that compliment hers. She did great! Their outfits seemed tailor-made for this location.

As you might guess, this session took place before the rainy season kicked into gear in Portland. It was a pleasant overcast day without any blinding sun, which worked to our advantage for this outdoor family session. We kept little brother engaged throughout and captured intimate shots as well as more playful ones.

Location, location, location

I love the vibe of this local Waldorf school. I used to take my kids there to play when they were much younger. While the playground did prove a bit distracting, this spot has lots of nooks, crannies, and beautiful spots tucked into its large grounds. We were able to get creative even if the playground was full of kids and their adults.

Although the weather can make session scheduling a bit more complicated in January and February, I do have session slots available. Intimate indoor sessions in your own home can be a really nice option as well. Book soon and you may still get my 2019 rates!
